About

The purpose of the Supportive Spoon is in the name- helping you to feed yourself and / or your family when you are low on spoons.

The Spoon Theory is a common metaphor used in the Disability community to describe how a persons' disability impacts their capacity to engage in everyday tasks, work, their social and family life, and overall energy levels. You may hear someone say, 'I'm so low on spoons today I can't even make my own dinner'.

People that may benefit from our supports include (but not limited to):

  • Autistic, ADHD and PDAers

  • Individuals with physical disabilities or limited mobility

  • Parents of children with disabilities including neurodivergence

  • Those in burnout

  • Families that are juggling multiple dietary needs

  • Individuals who are newly responsible for feeding themselves (ie. just moved out of home)

  • Teenagers and young (or older!) adults wanting to gain more independence and skill in the kitchen

  • Those wanting to add more nutrient dense food to their diet but unsure where to start

  • Anyone who finds mealtimes exhausting, overwhelming, boring, or confusing

This is not just about offering a meal plan. This is about providing holistic guidance and support around mealtimes and all that it involves.

The Social Connection Kitchen

For some people food and cooking is a point of connection. If you are a person who is disabled or neurodivergent and would like a fellow AuDHD, PDA person to connect with remotely while in the kitchen, this may be for you. This session may look many ways depending on the individual, however has the potential to include:

  • Discussing food and cooking.

  • Offloading about the challenges around eating, planning and preparing meals alongside neurodivergence and disability. This may include collaborating and problem-solving or just “getting it off your chest”.

  • Verbal guidance and support while you cook in your own kitchen (because ‘doing’ in real time works best for some!).

  • Body doubling while you cook in your own kitchen.

Will also include a thorough pre-session questionnaire to determine what it is you are wanting and needing from the session. You will have the option to choose between one, two or three sessions 60-75 minute Zoom sessions (and of course more if you'd like to continue them after this!).

Cost:

NDIS funding is welcome for those who are self- or plan-managed. Please get in touch to confirm if the funding types you have available can be used.

For those paying privately, I want to acknowledge that not having access to NDIS funding and living with a disability or having a family member who is disabled impacts finances. Support services should be equitable. Please get in touch for a non-judgmental chat about how I can support you without creating additional stress or pressure.

About Me

selfie for profile_edited.png

Hi I'm Ashleigh. I'm a late diagnosed AuDHD, PDAer with a bachelor's degree in Health Sciences (Nutritional Medicine). Over the last few years since being diagnosed there has been a lot of self-learning, and knowing my neurotype has helped me make a lot of sense about myself growing up and how I operate and cope now as an adult. I'm grateful for my children's diagnoses for helping me find my own.

I also noticed that since becoming a mum, raising kids that require a lot of co-regulation and support, homeschooling, maintaining a relationship with my partner, not to mention "looking after myself" (ha), that trying to feed yourself let alone others can be really, really hard.

Whether feeding yourself or your family has always felt hard, or it's something that only recently you feel you could use some support with, my goal is to provide you with an empathetic, understanding and holistic approach to mealtimes.

I can't magically make mealtimes simple for you, but I know from firsthand experience that with the right supports in place I can help you reduce the stress, overwhelm and cognitive load that mealtimes can present.

These services are for everyone, and whilst I highlight the importance of supporting disabled folk, life itself can make this aspect of life feel like a lot. So regardless of who you are, please feel free to reach out if you think I may be able to support you or your family.

I'm more than happy to have a no-obligations chat prior to committing to anything (whether this be via phone call, text or email). Please reach out initially via email and we can go from there. I look forward to connecting with you.
